Gangotri – The Sacred Origin of River Ganga

Gangotri is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in India, where the Goddess Ganga is believed to have descended from the heavens to purify the earth. Surrounded by majestic Himalayan peaks and dense forests, Gangotri offers both spiritual sanctity and pristine natural beauty.

The Journey of the Ganga

The sacred River Ganga originates from the Gaumukh Glacier, located approximately 18 km beyond Gangotri. Known initially as the Bhagirathi River, it merges with the Alaknanda River at Devprayag, where it is officially named the Ganga. This divine confluence marks the beginning of India’s most revered river.
